Spring Refresh...ish: The Children’s Room Edition 😅

The children's room is one area of our home I still haven’t quite mastered when it comes to daily resets—let alone a lasting spring refresh. Hence the “...ish” in the title of this post! 😂

Their space seems to require constant organizing, tidying, and fixing—every day, all the time. And while I’ve accepted that this room may never stay perfect, I’ve also discovered something that has saved me a lot of frustration.

Enter: The “Less Mess” Motto

"Less mess" doesn’t mean the room is always spotless. It simply means letting go of the unrealistic expectation that kids should maintain a picture-perfect space. By lowering the pressure and focusing on progress, not perfection, I’ve found a rhythm that’s healthier for me and my kids.

3 Simple Steps to a Spring Refresh (Kid-Friendly Edition):

1. Clear the Chaos

Start with the basics:

  • Remove clothes that no longer fit

  • Toss broken toys or donate what’s no longer used

  • Wipe down surfaces, vacuum, and air out the room

2. Set the “Less Mess” Mindset

Let your kids know the goal isn’t perfection—it’s simply “less mess.”This means:

  • Clear floors

  • Items returned to their “homes”

  • A room that feels calm and livable, not magazine-worthy

This mindset shift helps reduce stress—for them and for you.

3. Give Them Ownership

Once the refresh is done, encourage your kids to create their own:

  • Daily or weekly room goals (keep it simple!)

  • Reward system for their efforts (stickers, high-fives, small treats)

  • Optional journaling to track their wins and reflect on how a clean space makes them feel

💡 Quick Hack:

Let your child create a mini “Room Reset Chart” they decorate and check off daily or weekly. It builds responsibility and adds a touch of fun to the process!

At the end of the day, it’s not about a perfectly styled room—it’s about creating a space that feels peaceful, manageable, and theirs. And yes, sometimes “less mess” really is more than enough. 💛
